When commissioned by London printers Push to design a mail-out to announce and celebrate the arrival of their new Heidelberg printing press, we came up with the idea of producing a cloth-bound book entitled The Journey. The book, produced in an edition of 350 copies, charts the three month journey of the new press from its Heidelberg factory through to the first print run completed on the machine in its new home at Push in London. The end result showcases the human element, detail and precision involved at every stage of this journey, and uses a flow of energy, light and colour throughout the book to symbolise the flow of paper through the machine using the CMYK print process. We chose a matt coated stock for the first half of the story, before switching to a gloss stock to coincide with the slick installation process of the machine within the headquarters of Push. The finished hard cover book was bound in a Heidelberg coloured book cloth with graphic printing symbols debossed onto the cover.
